A committee is made up of members of the legislature. The average committee size is about 23 members, although some have as few as 10 (Select Committee on Children) or as many as 55 (Appropriations).
All committees in the Connecticut General Assembly are joint committees. They are made up of Representatives and Senators sitting together. The chairperson from each chamber (House or Senate) alternates as the presiding officer.
